Talamanca castle dates back to the times of ancient Rome and is situated in the town of the the
Bages region. In the XVIII century it was dismantled and turned into a fortified house.
Records first reference the landmark in 967 when a restoration of the rounded battle tower and part
of the defense walls was commissioned.–The walls were laterdestroyed inthe XVIII century, as a
result of retaliation of Felipe V against those who participated in the Succession War.
In 1971, an armyled by Marquis de P were using the castle asone oftheir main base of
operations. The builidngwas almost completely dismantled in compliance with the demolition
orders against all Catalan castles and fortified houses dictated by Felipe V. It was partially
reconstructedlater and its stones were used to construct a new living space known as The castle or
The castle of the Marquis (by reference to the marquise family of Castellbell) whichserved as a
working farm for the cultivation of the castle`s surrounding fields. The latest restorations were
made during the XXI century.
